The Healthy Initiatives Child Care Ordinance is the first of its kind in Idaho, which currently ranks 52nd in the nation for healthy child-care policies. The ordinance calls for the review of all 300 city-licensed child care homes and centers for physical activity, non-educational sedentary screen time, meals and snacks meeting USDA nutrition standards; and a private location for mothers to breastfeed onsite. Results are posted at a new website: www.boisechildcare.com. Child care owners and directors are also required to complete training on how to implement the ordinance components.
